Back Story:

           In the year 2019, scientists and world governments made a startling discovery. They found that the world's supply of oil had reached critical levels. The world powers, fearing a resource war, scrambled to find a new source of energy. The United States, the Russian Federation, and the People's Republic of China all turned to nuclear energy as the primary source of energy; the other developed nations following suit. Not everyone had access to nuclear energy, creating tensions that led to a Resource War in the Middle East.

            On July 16, 2020, the nation of Israel was invaded by Iran. The United States, forced to protect their ally, sent the Marines to support the IDF. Fearing nuclear retaliation, the United States began to construct a network of nuclear defenses and new military technologies. On November 4, 2021, the war ended with the total annihilation of the Middle East in a wreathe of atomic fire.

            In the years following the Resource War, the world thrived in an era of economic stability. During the year 2024, nuclear power plants across the world began to display anomalies. Fearing foreign sabotage, the world powers declared war on each other. Thus began a third world war. The United States, outfitted with extremely advanced military technology quickly secured victories. On December 5, 2024, several nuclear facilities began to fail, causing massive emissions of radiation around the world. The world fell silent on December 18th, 2024. And it was on this day that two travelers would stop their exodus due to an unexpected early labor. On that fateful day, in a home near the last remaining nuclear power plant, a child was born.

            During the ensuing nuclear holocaust, people who did not find shelter died or began an excruciating process of mutation. Years later, people emerged from their shelters to a harsh, desolate new world. Settlements were built, and humanity started anew. The Army Rangers, operating out of  Fort Washington, expanded outwards to bring law and order to the ruins of Tacoma, and protect the developing settlements. A massive group of religious fanatics, called the Church of Atomology, spread, seeking converts. Their mission was to bring humanity on its next evolutionary step, mutation. Greed-consumed Bandits spread like a plague, pillaging and murdering whatever and whomever they came across. Eighteen years later, on December 18, 2042, the Loner would be forced to survive on the merit of strength, wit, and intuition, facing a Nuclear Horizon.
